Hot Stone Maui
Hot Stone is a modality where the Massage Therapist uses smooth, heated stones during your massage. The purpose of Hot Stone is to get heat into the muscle tissue and Fascia (connective tissue) to make those tissues more pliable. Hot Stone feels Wonderful! It can be combined with any modality (Swedish, Lomi Lomi, or Deep Tissue.) We have 60 minute and 75 minute Hot Stone Treatments and we can of course extend your Hot Stone Massage to 80 minutes or 90 minutes upon request.
Since ancient times, Hawaiians have been using lava stones (Pohaku) for physical and spiritual healing. Hawaiians believe using Pohaku (hot stones) with massage therapy, to be one of the best healing approaches for the body. The most commonly used stones are basalt (a black volcanic rock that absorbs and retains heat well). The stones come in various shapes and sizes, from tiny little stones that are placed between your toes, to big stones the therapist uses to massage you. It’s a very soothing, relaxing form of massage. Hot stone was invented in 1993 by Mary Hannigan, a native of Tucson, Arizona. She has trademarked her particular style LaStone Therapy. Other names for hot stone, include Stone Spirit and Lava Stone.
Before you arrive, your massage therapist sanitizes and heats the stones to 120 and 150-degree, putting them aside on clean cloth to cool down. There are three ways the stones are used during the massage: In the first, the therapist holds a stone in the palm of her hand, and uses its heat and shape to work out knots in your muscles. In the second technique, the massage therapist puts heated stones on specific points ( along the spine, on palm of the hand, between the toes or piled around the feet). If you have inflammation or muscle injury, cold stones are best. In the third technique, the therapist does a Lomi Lomi stroke with their forearm and follows with the hot stone held in their opposite hand.
As with all massage, it’s best to give your massage therapist feedback. Let her know if the stones are too hot. If you have Diabetes, any numbness in your body or any other health conditions, it’s very important you tell your massage therapist before receiving a Hot Stone.
Hot-Stone feels fantastic!! Cold-Stone feels great too when you’re overheated or injured. You can combine Hot-Stone and Cold-Stone if you wish.
