Your Massage Therapist will check in with you about the pressure of your Deep Tissue Massage. Please give your therapist feedback about the pressure, especially if it feels like it’s too much pressure. Deep tissue is an excellent modality for Shiatsu, Sports Massage, and Medical Massage. We offer Shiatsu, Sports Massage, and Medical Massage. Deep Tissue is very relaxing and a great modality to combine with Hotstone Massage. We have 60 min, 80 min, 90 min, and 2 Hour Deep Tissue treatments.
Deep tissue massage is a type of massage aimed at the deeper tissue structures of the muscle and fascia (connective tissue). Deep tissue massage uses similar techniques as Swedish massage, but the pressure is deeper. Deep Tissue is a more specific type of therapeutic massage that addresses the structural alignment of the body.
The Massage Therapist works on releasing chronic muscle tension and areas where your tissue has become too short, tight or bunched up, what therapists refer to as “ropey tissue.” Neuro-muscular therapy (NMT) massage therapy is a type of Deep Tissue Massage that works scar-tissue (adhesions) out of the body. The slightest amount of scar tissue can cause pain in the body. Micro tears in the tissues, tendons or ligaments can cause pain. Use ice therapy immediately on your injured area(s).
Applying ice will not only start helping the injury to heal, but it will also keep the injury from getting worse. It’s best to discontinue activity when you’re injured. When it’s the right time (72hrs or longer, depending on the severity of the injury) you can receive NMT massage therapy to help the scar-tissue be released. Getting scar-tissue out of the body with massage is a gradual process, and so it requires several treatments. The therapist works a little out at a time and then you must follow up with ice therapy. Always consult your medical doctor when you’re injured.
Deep tissue massage is more pressure. It can be uncomfortable if you’re not used to getting Deep Tissue. You must always tell your Massage Therapist if the pressure is too much. Rolfing is a specialized form or Deep Tissue Massage. Rolfing is very deep. It’s a modality of massage used to move the connective tissue (fascia) of the body. The purpose of Rolfing is to improve the structural alignment of the body. A Rolfing session can be painful and will definitely leave you sore the next day and possibly for several days. It’s important to use ice therapy for 20 minutes on sore areas after a massage.
It’s important to be realistic about what one massage can achieve. Many people ask for more pressure, thinking that if the therapist just pushes harder, they can get rid of all their knots in an hour. This just won’t happen. In fact, undoing chronic ropey tissue and returning the body to better structural alignment is best achieved with an integrated program that includes exercise, stretching, water, proper diet, cleansing (detoxifying) the body, working on your posture and ways of moving, relaxation techniques, chiropractic care, and a regular regimen of massage therapy.
